MIAMI (AP) — A person familiar with the situation says former major league manager Manny Acta has interviewed for the Miami Marlins’ managerial job.
The person confirmed Tuesday’s interview to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Marlins declined to comment.
The interview is the strongest indication yet that current manager Dan Jennings won’t be back in that job next year. It’s uncertain whether he’ll return to his former position of general manager.
It’s unknown whether the Marlins have interviewed other candidates to replace Jennings. The next skipper will be owner Jeffrey Loria’s seventh since June 2010.
Acta hasn’t managed since he was fired by the Cleveland Indians near the end of the 2012 season. He spent three seasons with them, and managed the Washington Nationals in 2007-09.
